I've found an article that claims that the Revolution WILL support DVDs. It doesn't say though if it means DVD games or movies.. I would think it would play movies, if the Sony and Microsoft consoles can.

| I don't think the Revolution will play DVDs - I remember reading that Nintendo intends to keep the Rev as purely a gaming console without all the multimedia bells and whistles that Sony/MS are determined to add to their respective efforts. |

My guess is that NR will run with DVD. The reasons are:
* NR will support a some kind of optical disk
* Price will be one of the major advantage for NR thus Nintendo will try to make NR low price as possible
* CD isn't enough to use specification of NR
* Next generation DVDs will be expensive, unless Toshiba corporate with Nintendo
* Current DVD costs isn't that different to CD
And if NR uses DVD for gaming, that means console will have ability to read DVD data and plus the CPU and GPU has enough power to decode DVD movie stream without hardware chip-sets. Therefore, all NR really need to play DVD movie are some kind of licence and software to play DVD movie I guess.
At least there will be an option to play DVD movies I hope... |
