It has always seemed odd to me that the word "gimmick" is slapped on Nintendo innovations in gaming while companies like Microsoft and Sony who actually add gimmicks that have nothing to do with gaming. They add media functions that play music and video that never seem to get labeled with the same term.
When the NR controller was unveiled earlier this year, many people expressed their skepticism. Some people feel that the controller lacks practically and will not be able to function effectively with games, while more harsh critics believe the controller is nothing more than a gimmick.
What do you guys think? I personally can't wait to use it. |

Ha, I was just posting my own topic about that. My opinion is posted at http://www.nrgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10
But I would definately say it falls into the "innovation" category. I believe the idea is really innovative, but we will just have to wait and see whether or not it was executed well. |

The Revolution controller is innovative, no doubt about that. How it translates into real-world gameplay is yet to be seen though. The demo they showed at TGS 2005 looked interesting - I'm sure there'll be a spate of games made purely for the sake of the controller which show up shortly after launch.
Ultimately, though, I think the Rev controller has the potential to attract a wider audience to gaming because it looks much less intimidating than other controllers. Thumbs up to Nintendo on this one. |

It looks awesome. I can't wait to try it out, once again Nintendo has proven their willingness to try new things! They are far more revolutionary than Microsoft and Sony ever will bill. |

i think they're going to take that whole motion sensing stuff a lot further... we're going to have a gyroscopic free wheeling steering wheel, now thats what i fantasize about when i lie awake at nights
trouble is i want to play pgr3 with it! |

| Playing sports games would be freaky, but good, and this controller could make up for less graphics than sony and microsoft, because it hopefully will be too much fun using the controller that people won't notice how much sweat is dripping from people or how shiny peoples shoes are. |

| Well, I'm pretty dang sure it's an innovation, and if it doesn't turn out to be so amazing (although I personally think it will,) at least they were more adventurous than their rivals. I mean, I'm sure all of you are familiar with the Xbox 360 controller; it's the same thing as on the old Xbox, except it's WHITE. I myself don't think that Xbox controllers are the greatest, and that's why I didn't try out the 360 the last time I saw one at the mall. I think I'm gonna buy an mp3 player in a couple of weeks, maybe I'll stop by and try out Call of Duty 2... |

Innovation for sure mate.
Nintendo are the kings of it. Look how the 64 controller changed everything and how Sony and Microsoft pretty much copied completely.
Nintendo is the only one to try something new and it will pay off! |

Its gonna be amazing this new controller!!!
and for all the stressheads and critics out there giving it crap i remind you that it will come with an other shell to mimick a more conventional controller if you want to use that...
it may be more effecient to use the regular controller in some games but the majority will certainly be enhanced by it.... |
