Nintendo Revolution not in High-Definition

After a period of silence and indecision, Nintendo America has recently confirmed that Nintendo’s new video game console, Nintendo Revolution, will not support high-definition.

Apparently Nintendo doesn’t feel that HD compatibility is a must for the next generation of video game consoles, questioning whether HD makes games better to play.

For Nintendo, the decision not to try to compete with Sony and Microsoft in their quest for highest quality video output may be a market decision that may well reserve them a firm place in the reality of their target market.

Omitting the HD output will definitely lower the price and almost certainly allow the Revolution to sell at a lower price than the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.

Some observers feel that Nintendo is still banking on the younger gamers and their parents who couldn’t care less whether the game is in HD or comes on a disc that holds 50 Gigabytes of data. Nintendo’s history of strong gaming titles such as Zelda practically guarantees them a loyal fan base.

Their pricing strategy will also appeal to price-conscious parents that will continue to be hesitant to jump on the pricey HD bandwagon any time soon.

Although we don’t know whether the “Revolution will be televised” or not, we know it won’t be in high definition. (Sorry, simply could not resist the pun!)
