Nintendo aims for family gaming market
Legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto believes Nintendo’s console and games should appeal to ordinary people of all ages.

In an interview with Business Week, Miyamoto addressed critics who claim Nintendo’s offerings appeal only to the very young, saying,
“We want our games to be for anyone from 5 to 95 years old. We disagree with people who say, ‘Nintendo is for kids, and Sony is for adults.’ There are plenty of 60-year-olds who will play the games we make.”
According to Miyamoto, fun is the most important ingredient in Nintendo’s games, along with an element of surprise. Miyamoto also revealed that Nintendo aims to make video gaming a family activity, saying,
“I want families to play video games together. That was the concept behind the Revolution.”
The controller’s design is seen by Miyamoto to be an integral part of enticing non-gaming members of the family into trying out the Revolution controller.
Its resemblance to a TV remote is apparently meant to make it more accessible to those unfamiliar with video games, as well as giving the controller a place on the living room coffee table instead of stashed away like other consoles’ bulky controllers.
When asked about the future of video gaming, Miyamoto ended the interview on a mysterious note, saying
“I’ve always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room. But I would rather not say anything more about that.”
Perhaps future generation Nintendo consoles will truly “Revolutionize” gaming.
