Nintendo Revolution’s global launch plans clarified
Jim Merrick, Nintendo of Europe’s senior director of marketing, has provided further details on Nintendo’s plans for a simultaneous global launch of its Revolution console.

Jim Merrick
Speaking to Spanish gaming website MeriStation, Merrick revealed that Nintendo has no plans to pull off a three-week worldwide launch à la Microsoft. Instead, the Revolution will be rolled out to all key territories within a launch window of 14 weeks.
Merrick also defended the Revolution’s graphical abilities, saying that a “difference will not exist” between the Revolution’s graphics and those produced by rival next-gen consoles Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Disappointingly, Nintendo will not be demonstrating or displaying any upcoming Revolution titles before 2006. Evidently, Nintendo wants to wait until games are in their near-final forms before showing them off to the public.
“We want to wait until everything is ready, and when we show the Revolution’s titles for the first time, they will be playable with the final system. [Shigeru] Miyamoto doesn’t like to show incomplete games,”
said Merrick.
Good news for fans of retro Nintendo games, however: old titles will be available over Nintendo’s download service, and gamers from different regions will all be able to download and play these titles without needing to worry about region incompatibilities.
Merrick also revealed that Nintendo 64 games played on the Revolution console will have an improved framerate.
