Nintendo to keep Revolution specs under wraps
Jim Merrick, Nintendo’s European senior director of marketing, has stated that Nintendo has no plans to reveal the Revolution console’s tech specs to the public.
Detailed technical specifications of Sony’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console have been released by the respective companies, however, Merrick has dismissed spec-based comparisons as unimportant, saying,
“Regarding the [Revolution’s] specifications, we will probably never ‘release’ this information as we feel that it is largely irrelevant.
While some of our competitors enjoy comparing specifications, it has little or nothing to do with how satisfied the consumers will be with the system and the games once they are released.”
Merrick also revealed that not all Revolution games will use the innovative freehand-style controller.
Instead, developers will have the option of developing games using a traditional style controller, as Nintendo plans to make a classic-style expansion available for the new controller.
“This option is there for new games that will be created that are most suited to a traditional style of controller.
We are not trying to say that the ‘traditional’ controller design is not valid, in fact Nintendo is responsible for most of the features that are found on today’s traditional controllers,”
said Merrick.
