Nintendo Reveals DS Redesign

The Nintendo DS Lite is a redesigned version of the popular Nintendo DS handheld console. It will be a smaller, sleeker model than its predecessor.

Nintendo has revealed the DS Lite will be two-thirds the size and weigh 20% than the current version. A feature of the redesign is the addition of a brightness control function, which has four different light level settings.

According to Nintendo’s press release the DS Lite will go on sale in Japan from March 2 for 16,800 yen (around US $145).

The release date for North America and other regions has yet to be announced.

Since its December 2004 launch, the original DS has sold over 14.4 million copies world-wide. The enhanced look of the DS is likely to boost further sales of the console.

Nintendo has previously been successful with updated versions of their hand-held gaming machines, including the Gameboy Advance SP and the Gameboy Advance Micro.
